The Fulbright Scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship to study in the United States for Masters and Ph.D. students. Via the Fulbright scholarship, graduate students, young professionals, and artists are enabled to study and conduct research in the United States.
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program operates in more than 155 countries globally. Up to 4,000 foreign students receive Fulbright scholarships annually.The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is binational Fulbright Commissions/Foundations or U.S. Embassies. The Fulbright Program, the flagship international academic exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, has fostered mutual understanding between the United States and other countries since 1946.
Each year, the U.S. Congress appropriates funds to the U.S. Department of State to sponsor the Fulbright Program. Many foreign governments contribute substantially as well. Additional direct or in-kind funding is provided by the U.S. and foreign institutions of higher education, non-governmental organizations, private organizations, corporate partnerships, and individual donors.
The program provides awards to approximately 8,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals each year from the United States and 160 countries. Fulbright is unique in its nationalism and noted for its merit-based selection process and academic prestige.
Fulbrighters come from all backgrounds and are selected regardless of their race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, geographic location, socio-economic status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) administers the Fulbright Program under policy guidelines established by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB). Binational Fulbright Commissions in 49 countries develop priorities for the program, including the number and categories of grants. Commissions are funded jointly by the United States and respective host governments and governed by boards composed of citizens of the United States and partner nations.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Applicants should be affiliated with an academic or non-academic professional institution in Africa and committed to working in their home institutions upon completion of the designated program;
• Nominees must have at least the equivalent of four (4) years of university study and the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. Nominees that have three (3) years of tertiary study should have the equivalent of thirteen (13) years of primary and secondary school and their undergraduate degree should allow them to be eligible to pursue higher education in their home country.
Please note that the final equivalency decisions will be determined by each U.S. university and not all institutions will accept a three (3) year undergraduate.
ELIGIBILITY
•Applicants should have a sufficient level of English proficiency to enable them to engage in full-time graduate-level study in the United States.
• Applicants must meet the minimum scores on required standardized tests. The ideal TOEFL score is 100 or above for Internet-Based tests or the equivalent in other test forms. For GRE, applicants must at or above the fiftieth percentile in either section.
• Applicants must have outstanding academic records, references, and preparation in their chosen fields.
• Applicants must demonstrate a serious commitment to completing the program and returning home
