Hiya guys! We are ending this week on a super high because it’s Polish Pick-Up day! It also marks the end of a very stressful week that I was absolutely dreading getting to. But it came and went pretty flawlessly, which is kind of funny now in retrospect because I was so stressed out for so long. It’s not often things turn out well and for me that means celebrating. With some polish of course! So for today I’m sharing the June contribution to Polish Pick-Up from Rogue Lacquer. This month the theme is Over the Rainbow and this shade takes it’s inspiration from the rainbow going across the sky after a storm. This embodies the symbol that storms pass and there is beauty on the other side. I really love that and it’s something I need to remember myself when going thru some tough times. But yeah without further ado, let’s go ahead and jump right into the swatches!
Rogue Lacquer – After the Storm
After the Storm can be described as a purple toned gray crelly with a rainbow of metallic flakes and holo flake shards. Isn’t this beauty so perfect and unique?! I always get such an extra tinge of excitement when I am swatching a crelly as it really brings me back to when I first got started in the community. This was the go-to finish back in the day and for me it will always hold a special place in my heart. That said, this polish not only brings back some memories but it is downright gorgeous in its own right. All of the different flakes really stand out so well against the cool gray base that it easily makes you think of the rainbow inspiration. Easily nails it, no pun intended. Gray is also a color that doesn’t stand out in my collection or that I see too often. It’s a refreshing take in every regard and I definitely recommend it make the cut into your cart this month. It’s a color that does so well against any skin-tone and the fun colors make it wearable anytime.
The formula has a good opacity that builds-up easily for full coverage. Consistency wise it felt well balanced, not too thick or too thin. That was really a nice surprise considering how jam packed full of flakes the finish turns out. I experienced no issues during the application process, each coat went on great with the flakes being well distributed throughout the coats. There was no clumping or anything like that, which again is so nice in a polish so full of different flakes and glitters. The finish dries down to a very gritty/textured finish that can be smoothed out for the most part after a a few layers of topcoat. It might have been an easily time getting it to smooth down if I used a special topcoat made for heavy glitters, but I did not have on on hand and used my normal fast drying one instead. Even after doubling up on the topcoat layer I still felt it was gritty, so in retrospect I would have done a third just to get a better result. My swatches are shown here in two to three coats and a double layer of glossy topcoat.
And I finally didn’t goof and remembered to snap some photos of this beauty with a matte topcoat. Let me just say *chef’s kiss* it was such an excellent decision.
That’s a wrap on another gorgeous shade for Polish Pick-Up this month. I love myself a good crelly and this one definitely hits it outta the park. The only thing about this shade is how highly textured it dries down. As I mentioned before I don’t own one of the specialty topcoats made for heavy glitters like this, so I had to make due with double layering regular topcoat and that didn’t feel like enough. I didn’t hate the look of it being slightly textured, but would have preferred it to have a smoother finished look. All in all it’s not enough of an issue as it can be easily solved (either with the glitter topcoat or another layer of my current topcoat) and I still highly recommend this beauty make it’s way into your cart. It’s entirely way too unique of a glitter combination and gorgeous to pass up on. Be sure to check out more of Rogue Lacquer, I am leaving all the links for their social media down below.
